Sam Chown, drummer for the psychedelic synth prog duo Zorch, has released the first song and visuals from his upcoming solo project Shmu. "House of Stares" is much less chaotic and speedy than Zorch, relying more on funky grooves than dense layers of synths. It works really well and creates a pretty creepy atmosphere with Chown's haunting vocal repeating the hook as if it were a mantra.
The video is built of raw cuts of Chown wandering around in a carnival wearing pink pajamas and playing around with mirrors as well as some simple visual after effects.
Discipline/Communication is set to be released June 5th. "House of Stares" can be downloaded now via Consequence of Soundhere.
