Joan as Police Woman has released an energetic new video for her recent single "Holy City" from her forthcoming fourth LP, The Classic. The video features a series of different setups, each behind a freshly opened curtain, in which Joan Wasser is dressed in a different get up, surrounded by lots of happy people. In one she sports a 70s afro, and in one she is a buttoned up housewife, for example. It's a lot of fun, so you should just go watch it now!
The Classic is out March 11 via PIAS.
Joan Wasser (aka Joan as Police Woman) has been one of my favorite under-the-radar artists since the 2006 release of her debut, Real Life. Gearing up for her fourth LP, Wasser has released a new single, "Holy City". Percussive and punctuated with horn pops, this song is all about the killer chorus. Wasser's very distinctive voice is all over the place, and that ascending, hopeful, joyous chorus is catchy and smile-cracking (especially when it pops up the third time after the instrumental break). Add in an outro from Reggie Watts, and you've got a real solid 4-and-a-half minutes.

Singer-songwriter Joan Wasser (aka: Joan as Police Woman) has a new album coming out next year, The Classic, the follow-up to her wonderful 2011 LP The Deep Field. She has just released a video for the title track depicting Wasser and some friends performing the song on the sidewalk. It looks like everyone is having a joyous time, and the video has an old-timey vibe to it, appropriate given the old school pop feel of the song. (It even features Reggie Watts!)
