Boris- Heavy Rocks / Attention Please

On Boris' latest albums, the band seeks to simplify their sound a bit. While they have made their style a little more accessible--especially on Attention Please--I don't think it's translated into something that's exactly catchy or memorable. Still, there are some pretty heavy moments on Heavy Rocks that may be worth revisiting for me, but it's not like the band hasn't gone hard on the previous Heavy Rocks or their other albums, too.

Boris- "Riot Sugar"

Boris' first single from Heavy Rocks is a hefty take on the bluesy sounds metal used to have during its salad days in the 1970s. It recalls the work the band did on the original Heavy Rocks, too, which came out in 2002. It's 9 years later and Boris is getting ready to release an album of the same exact title. But before you freak out, remember it's pretty much the same thing Weezer has done via numerous self-titled albums. So there!

Well, if "Riot Sugar"--with its heavy riffs, wailing solos, and seductively clean vocals--is anything like the rest of Heavy Rock's tracks, then we'll be in for a great album. But I still have to say that this song isn't exactly "heavier" than many of the tracks on the original Heavy Rocks.

If you're looking for something heavier, it's not here. But Boris is still really true to the sound.

Boris- "Hope"

After a bit of confusion over my review of the song "Party Boy," Boris has officially released a track from their forthcoming album, Attention Please. I'm sorry to say that this song confirms what I most feared: The next song I heard from this album would be a plainly structured, tame piece of pop rock with lightly distorted guitars.

Still, I have a lot of respect for Boris, and I'm gonna follow what they do regardless. What do you think of the track? Does this new direction for Boris interest you?

Boris- "Party Boy"

Boris will be releasing two new albums on 4/26, and one, I'm guessing, will be heading in a much different direction. The song "Party Boy" comes off one of the two albums due to be released, Attention Please. Is this track for you? Find out in this review.

My review of this track must have been premature or something. Though this song is written and recorded by Boris, and shares the same title as "Party Boy" from the upcoming Attention Please, it's not the version we're due to hear on the album when it finally drops in April.
