Eno • Hyde - "Daddy's Car"

As mentioned previously, Brian Eno and Underworld co-founder Karl Hyde are coming forth with a collaborative full-length called Someday World. Despite having basic elements, the lead single "The Satellites" was a nice, mildly moody treat - it was great hearing these two electronic music veterans working together and just delivering a well-written tune.

"Daddy's Car" has a lot of the same elements, including the bright horns that helped make "The Satellites" so captivating, but overall this new single is bolder with its instrumentation. Not in the sense that Eno and Hyde are doing something incredibly ambitious or adventurous - the components here are still pretty basic - but the song does sound grand nonetheless. Its arrangement is certainly more upbeat and zestier than the earlier glimpse we got of the project, and it's decidedly heavier on vocals. These two tracks forecast an album that's going to be dynamic, have stellar production, and simply be a great ride. So we're properly excited for this thing to drop via Warp on May 5!

Here's our review of Eno's latest.

Eno • Hyde - "The Satellites"

With reverbed guitars and layer upon bright layer of synth horns, Brian Eno and Underworld co-founder Karl Hyde deliver "The Satellites," which is the opening track from the forthcoming collaborative album Someday World. This thing is looking at a release on Warp Records on May 5th!

While basic in its elements, "The Satellites" is a very moody, pretty piece of tuneage. It's got the smooth, steady pacing of an old new wave or krautrock track, but has the clarity and color of something more modern. Enjoy!

Paul White - "Watch the Ants"

Paul White is most known for producing for Danny Brown, and is producing multiple tracks off of Danny Brown's upcoming Old. He is also readying his own release, the EP Watch The Ants, and has just released a video for the eponymous track off of the EP. The track takes much of the sonic material of early Boards of Canada: children sing-songs, 70's television-show synths, and breakbeats, but makes something much different out of them. Where Boards of Canada create serene music for the point between sleep and waking, "Watch the Ants" is urgent, frantic and swampy.

Linked HERE is a post to the song Pink Eyes by Danny Brown that Paul White produced, flipping an Eno sample.

Brian Eno's latest ambient effort sees him returning to his roots in the genre with albums like Ambient 1. At first, I found that pretty refreshing, and I loved the combination of piano, violin, synths, and guitar on these tracks, too. However, the album is seriously lacking in terms of new approaches or variation.
