Dinosaur Jr.- I Bet On Sky

With the third full-length LP since their reunion in '05, underground rock icons Dinosaur Jr. is doing what they usually do with the quality fans have come to expect. It's a bit more mellow than 2009's Farm, which has its ups and downs, but still very enjoyable to say the least.

Dinosaur Jr.- "Pierce The Morning Rain"

Dinosaur Jr. continues to bring on their brand of indie rock without any signs of slowing down.

Their sound featuring a lot of guitar feedback and distortion may not be so original anymore, but damn if they don't do it well. Right from the beginning the song goes off on a solid rock riff that really carries throughout the whole song making it into a classic head bobbing single from the band. This is the kind of music that was made to be played loud to get the full effect the squealing guitar solos and pumping rock sound that feels forgotten a lot of the time. In that way I hope Dinosaur Jr. keeps releasing music like this well into the future.

J Mascis- "I've Been Thinking"

A warm acoustic track from J Mascis, which comes off the dude's forthcoming single on Sub Pop records. the a-side is an Edie Brickell cover, and this track--though not a cover--reminds me a lot of Bob Dylan's "I Want You." Overall, a pretty soothing track.

Yuck- Self-Titled

Yuck's latest album is a fun embrace of the sound on classic albums from Dinosaur Jr., Yo La Tengo, Elliott Smith, and many more artists and bands considered "90s." While this album is an alright place to visit, it's hard to exactly describe where you are. That's because Yuck doesn't have anything going for them that you could draw specifically to them.

Though I'm not against "borrowing," or showing off your influences, I can't say this album is enticing me. It's just kind of making me want to listen to the classics is all.
