Run The Jewels – “Oh My Darling (Don’t Cry)” (NSFW Video)

Run The Jewels are uniquely skilled at conjuring ridiculous amounts of havoc and bravado from a surprisingly minimalist approach. The duo apply this talent in the new video for "Oh My Darling Don't Cry", the second single from their year-end-list-topping LP, RTJ2. Like the production on the track, the video gives El-P and Killer Mike room to display their prowess, a pulpit from which to preach. El's beat for this track is a wild ride for sure, but at its core it's really quite sparse: the dry, quick snare, that stomach-churning kick, and the chopped voices skittering on top. The dense and incendiary verses really get the spotlight with it writhing underneath them like that. The visuals work in much the same way, framing the pair as they deliver each blow. Forgoing any narrative, we get only a dark room, intermittent flashes of light and color, and distorted nude bodies blurring by...and of course El and Mike laying waste.

Run The Jewels - "Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck)" ft. Zack de la Rocha

The previously praised Run The Jewels have a new full-length album on the way, and I couldn't be more psyched after the release of this new track featuring none other than Zach de la Rocha of Rage Against the Machine.

In case you're unaware, Run The Jewels is a hip hop duo consisting of Georgia rapper Killer Mike and New York rapper-producer El-P. After collaborating heavily on Killer Mike's last full-length, El and Mike decided to take it a step further and solidify themselves as a duo, which they christened with a free full-length album last year.

Ever since, fans have been waiting for the followup, and RTJ isn't gonna make us wait too long for it. The duo's second album, RTJ2, is dropping on October 28th via Mass Appeal, and this newly released track is the best taster from the forthcoming project thus far. The instrumental is one of the most massive El-P has dropped since R.A.P. Music, and it's great to her Zach on point once again--you know, since his recent appearance on the Deltron 3030 followup was somewhat lackluster. Zack's Bitches Brew line was nasty, and El and Mike are sounding great as usual.

Looking forward to this!

DJ Qbert - Extraterrestria/GalaXXXian

https://soundcloud.com/djqbert/ogbboy Extraterrestria/GalaXXXian, the new double album from DJ Qbert, is being promoted as the producer's first proper full-length effort since 1998's Wave Twisters.  But despite this 15+ year gap, you might still have been hearing his work over the years, in particular a nice bonus track on the deluxe edition of that great Run the Jewels record last year.

This new project of his is split up into a disc "from space" and a disc "from earth." The former, Extraterrestria (stream here) is meant to "transcend turntablism" and explore what "skratch music sounds like in the future." If you dug El-P's last LP Cancer 4 Cure, then you stand a good chance of enjoying this side of the project. El-P actually appears as a guest MC on the second disc, GalaXXXian (stream here), which is decidedly a bit more traditional than the first half, with Qbert placing an emphasis on bangin' beats and "the illest skratches."

There is no shortage of ear-catching sonic textures throughout this thing, and there's a number of great guest verses - ones from Del the Funky Homosapien and Kool Keith, to name just a couple. Above, find the previously mentioned El-P-featuring highlight "OG BBOY." Enjoy!
