Big K.R.I.T. - "Cadillactica" (Video)

VideosContributor JonesComment

Has anyone called Big K.R.I.T. glam-trap yet? If it's alright with everyone, that's what I'm going to do. Displaying incredible technical prowess and a strong ear for a hook, "Cadillactica" finds K.R.I.T. comfortable in his niche. Lyrically, the song isn't his best, essentially deriving inspiration from sexual brags and success brags. His delivery fits snugly inside a high-hat and spacey synthesizer driven beat. It's very catchy, great weed music, and easy to listen to, but feels safe for an artist who in the not too distant past was one of the most exciting newcomers to the scene. The synthesizers on "Cadillactica," specifically near the closing of the song, may evidence an eventual foray into cloud rap territory. Now, trap mixed with cloud beats may not seem like the most original or necessary experiment for any rapper to make at this point, but let's not forget that not long ago K.R.I.T. was took part in revitalizing a tired southern trap scene. Who knows what he could do if he becomes willing to find inspiration elsewhere?

And by the way, if you want to watch a song about Cadillacs that can't show a Cadillac logo, check the video above.

Big K.R.I.T. - "Cadillactica" (Prod. DJ Dahi)

Previously loved Mississippi hip hop hero Big K.R.I.T. drops a new single from his forthcoming album of the same title: Cadillactica. A lot like previous aims at commercial appeal, K.R.I.T.'s hook on this track is a fast, repetitive earworm. The instrumental from DJ Dahi contrasts that with some incredibly smooth synths and basslines.

While at first I was worried to hear K.R.I.T. was gonna be welcoming other producers into the fold on this upcoming project, I think the results thus far has been pretty positive. With producing no longer being a primary focus for K.R.I.T., he's seemed to upped the intensity of his flow on this new single, delivering one speedy bar after another. Maybe he'll have more surprises to offer on the deep cuts.

Look for Cadillactica in November.

Big K.R.I.T. - "Pay Attention" ft. Rico Love

Mississippi rapper Big K.R.I.T. drops a new single from this forthcoming album Cadillactica. After tracks like this and "Mt. Olympus," I have to admit, I'm pretty excited for this album. It seems K.R.I.T. is finally finding that sweet spot between honing a commercial sound and still impressing as an MC.

"Pay Attention" is a sweet, sensual slow-jam, featuring a great hook from Rico Love. This might not be the kind of sound K.R.I.T.'s fans expect--or even seek out--but it's pulled off well. It's been a while since I've thought a track in this style was this tasteful. Kudos to K.R.I.T. on this one, and keep and ear out for the Cadillactica release date.

Mississippi rapper Big K.R.I.T. comes through with lyrical fire, setting things absolutely straight with a series of bars that address the frustration of trying to appeal to a fickle mainstream audience. K.R.I.T. doesn't seem happy to load his songs with "MOLLY" and trap-centric themes, which is fine. For me, his talent will do, and he brings more of that than I expected, delivering his verses with one of the fastest flows I've ever heard him perform. Can't wait to see where he goes after this.

Also, make sure to catch the recent "Week of K.R.I.T." tracks that dropped, too.

Mississippi rapper Big K.R.I.T. drops a new track and video, which features a pretty obvious--but awesomely executed--James Blake sample. The track will be featured on K.R.I.T.'s next mixtape, King Remembered In Time, which I've been told should be dropping this spring.

Here's a review of K.R.I.T.'s latest album, Live From The Underground:

Big K.R.I.T. releases another track from his forthcoming Def Jam debut, Live From the Underground. The album is set for a June 5th release, and what's dropped from it so far has been stellar. The dude is really keeping the Southern sounds of hip hop tasteful, fun, and classy.

While this new track isn't exactly a "Country Shit," K.R.I.T. is clearly heading back toward single territory with this new track. It's as catchy as it is energetic, and I'm psyched to listen to this new album when it drops.

A new video for the Big K.R.I.T. track "I Got This," which looks to be shot in the rapper's hometown of Meridian, Mississippi. Even as the guy grows his fanbase, and nears the release of his Def Jam Records debut, where he comes from seems more important then ever.

Don't forget this guy's previous two mixtapes have now been printed on CD and vinyl. Pick 'em up right here.
