Foxygen- "Shuggie"

Videosadmin1 Comment

Foxygen drops a strange video for the song "Shuggie," which features an array of characters who are completely infatuated with a mysterious black box. While there's no real explanation as to what makes the black box so damn interesting--or delicious--it does highlight the absurdity of obsessions people can form over objects. Props to Ulysses///Onasis on the video direction. They've also worked on some visual projects with Damien Jurado and Richard Swift

Look for Foxygen's next album, We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic, on January 22nd via Jagjaguwar. Check out my review of the band's Take the Kids Off Broadway EP right here.

Foxygen- "Shuggie" (LOVED)

Some vintage pop rock with schizophrenic tendencies on this new Foxygen track, "Shuggie," which is set to come off the band's next album, which is ambitiously titled We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic. It'll be out January 22nd via Jagjaguwar--you know, the same label that released that great EP the band put together in 2011.

And just like the material that's on that EP, "Shuggie" shifts without warning from one idea to the next. The subdued intro is paired with some pretty moody vocals, and a mellotron-esque keyboard melody. The whole thing reminds me of the Unicorns a bit, but the big showbiz chorus around 1:20 goes down a completely different path--I'm not even gonna get into the funk breakdown around 2:30.

Again, Jan 22nd! Mark it on your calendar!
