Alphabets Heaven - "Birthday"
Videos1 CommentAlphabets Heaven - Birthday from diplodok493 on Vimeo.
A large part of this odd sensation that I am experiencing is due to the visuals, this is very much an audio/visual experience make no mistake. The track itself is subdued and feels fairly minimalist. But once the beat gets going it still has a warm feeling to it, striking a delicate balance.
The video is something completely entrancing and is very much a fevered version of a child's cartoon. Characters shift and transform sometimes in monsters, sometimes into animals, it's very translucent and ends with a birthday celebration featuring dancing teeth... I don't really think I can add to that.
White Fence- "Green Balloon"
New TracksCommentLo-fi rock project, White Fence has released a new single for 7" on Sexbeat records. The song has plenty of trippy, nostalgic vibes to offer; however, the sentiments feel a bit sour. "Green Ballon" seems to simultaneously celebrate and parody the idea of psychedelic rock & pop from the 60s, embracing the sentiments of both the Beatle's Revolver and Zappa's We're Only In it For the Money. There is also a nice echo effect put on the vocals providing a density to the song that directly accents the old school psych rock feel that the track aims for. This is the fortunate kind of song that rather than reminding you of a specific band it is more of a throwback to a different era of music.
M|O|D- "MoreLoko" & "Koola"
New TracksComment
Members Trap Arnold and Rewrote of the trippy, electronic group M|O|D dropped some singles on SoundCloud recently. "MoreLoko" using some really squeaky sounding synthesizers and a boom-bap beat, it is definitely styled like a hip-hop instrumental. That being said it is still a stimulating track with a good use of layering on top off an already compelling beat. "Koola" is unique from the other song, it is more of a dance electronic track with club styled synthesizers and some really deep wobbling bass. The track builds into a swirling synthesizers that almost begin to sound like a chip-tune composition without the 8-bit aesthetic. These two tracks provide a good look at the kind of music these guys are making and the sheer variety they are capable of providing.
I Come To Shanghai- "Tied Down"
VideosCommentA video for the short, new I Come To Shanghai song “Tied Down," which was made by splicing together footage from old VHS tapes. The images come from a variety of sources, and they're all colorfully distorted for a psychedelic effect. Despite the lack length, the song here builds a beautiful and impressive atmosphere. It's easy to just get lost in the synthesizers, but the lyrics are worth paying attention to as well.
Eternal Life Volume 2 is available now for purchase on the project's Bandcamp.
The Flaming Lips ft. Lightning Bolt- "I Wanna Get High But I Don't Want Brain Damage"
Videos1 CommentIn a fantasy collaboration I couldn't have possibly dreamed up, the Flaming Lips and Lightning Bolt have dropped a new track, "I Wanna Get High But I Don't Want Brain Damage."
The truth is, who doesn't?
I love what this track offers in terms of noise, but maybe I'm not huge on the simple and lumbering bass and drums. Still, the vocals are hilarious, and the video only adds to the absurdity. It looks like a combination of Animal Collective's ODDSAC and a Rathergood music video like "the Moon."
