Eno • Hyde - "Daddy's Car"

New Trackstheneedledrop1 Comment

As mentioned previously, Brian Eno and Underworld co-founder Karl Hyde are coming forth with a collaborative full-length called Someday World. Despite having basic elements, the lead single "The Satellites" was a nice, mildly moody treat - it was great hearing these two electronic music veterans working together and just delivering a well-written tune.

"Daddy's Car" has a lot of the same elements, including the bright horns that helped make "The Satellites" so captivating, but overall this new single is bolder with its instrumentation. Not in the sense that Eno and Hyde are doing something incredibly ambitious or adventurous - the components here are still pretty basic - but the song does sound grand nonetheless. Its arrangement is certainly more upbeat and zestier than the earlier glimpse we got of the project, and it's decidedly heavier on vocals. These two tracks forecast an album that's going to be dynamic, have stellar production, and simply be a great ride. So we're properly excited for this thing to drop via Warp on May 5!

Here's our review of Eno's latest.

Oneohtrix Point Never - "Zebra"

"Zebra," the new track from Oneohtrix Point Never, is a formless and sprawling seven-minute-long piece whose only through-line is its incredibly choppy foundational loops. However, the choppy, jarring foundation is aptly accented by ethereal, occasionally jazzy touches throughout. The result is the type of sonic juxtaposition OPN has struck many times in his work before, but the contrast has never been quite as extreme as it is here. Check it out above!

"Zebra" will appear on OPN's upcoming Warp Records debut, R Plus Seven, due out October 1. Here's hoping it will satisfy as much as 2011's Replica did:

Oneohtrix Point Never - "Problem Areas"

Oneohtrix Point Never has shared another track from his upcoming Warp Records debut R Plus Seven. The serene and pristine "Problem Areas" is accompanied by a Salvador Dalí-esque music video comprised of surreal, CGI household items. Choice imagery includes an alarm clock bursting with gummy worms and a model ship in a Gatorade bottle.

R Plus Seven will be released on September 30th via Warp Records.

Gonjasufi- "Nickels and Dimes"

A new track from hip hop mystic Gonjasufi. It's titled "Nickel and Dimes," and it's set to appear on the dude's forthcoming album, MU.ZZ.LE. It'll be out on Warp Records on January 24th.

This release will surely be a change of pace from his last. From what I understand, it's a bit shorter; plus, he made the effort to produce and record this album himself. Of course, Sufi's previous LP, A Sufi and a Killer had a homemade feel to it as well, but I'm assuming the beats are self-made, too.

This LP might be pretty interesting if "Nickels and Dimes" is any indicator of this forthcoming album's emotions. This song is definitely a moody one. I'm yet to completely interpret what's being said, but one doesn't need language comprehension to feel the sadness oozing out of every corner of this song.

Africa Hitech- 93 Million Miles

It took a while for Africa Hitech's debut LP to grow on me. When the album originally came out in May, I took some favorites from it, but dismissed the rest as being too hectic to be really enjoyable. However, I found myself just itching to listen to this thing again at the beginning of this month. To my surprise, I ended up loving the album from front to back. I still think some of the sounds could have been mixed a little better, but I love the rigid and primal mix of African and electronic sounds that flow throughout this LP. This isn't your average fusion of these two worlds, believe me.

Are you ready to embark on a trip to Africa? Well, Africa Hitech really, that is, which is the Australian-based collaboration between Mark Pritchard and vocalist Steve Spacek. This electronic duo’s debut album release, 93 Million Miles, is a tapestry of pixelated colors and textures, combining influences from 30 years of electronic music into a techno-tribal collage. Beat-lovers and sound-mongers will groove on the bit-wise bleeps and bloops, but there are organic sounds and soulful vocals as well. This may be the best merging of digital and tribal sounds since Eno and Byrne’s My Life In The Bush of Ghosts.

"Don’t Fight It"--the last track on the album--ends this groovy journey with blissful ease. So, please don’t fight it, dig on 39 Million Miles in its entirety here: http://africahitech.com/
