Alela Diane - "The Way We Fall"

There are certain singers that can just make you feel like you floating off your chair when you listen to them with the sheer quality of their voice, Alela Diane has just done that for me.

She has all of the qualities of a smokey blues singer that one would see at a high-end piano bar in Goodfellas, but she is more distinct than that with some smooth, rootsy production to accompany her as well. For me, it's really all in the voice in this one it's the kind of singing that can get straight into your heart--and break it. There is a clear moment in this track with the mood transition about halfway through. Enjoy!

Lone Doe - Marion

The new release from Lone Doe is just as enchanting as their name implies.

Vocals harmonies, beautifully strummed guitars and an understanding of song diversity all make this new project from Lone Doe worth a listen. Each of three tracks offered here feels so completely different it really makes me want to hear a full album from them, because not only are they different, they are damn good too. Each song feels like it has been constructed to its full potential nothing could be added or taken away to make them better in that respect.

TEEN - "Carolina"

A new plodding , twisting song from the Brooklyn-based band, TEEN.

This track has a certain earworm quality to it that I would not expect with the more offbeat progression of the music, but it definitely works. That's the true appeal of TEEN: Their strange musical energy is surprisingly infectious. And once the angular vocal melodies get stuck in your head don't expect them to be leaving anytime soon. "Carolina" has a really appealing build up throughout the whole song and the vocals are wonderful, and the MOOG synths are a nice touch as well.

This track comes from the band's forthcoming Carolina EP, which will be out via Carpark on May 28th. Enjoy!

Low - "So Blue"

Low drops another track from the legendary indie rock band's latest album, The Invisible Way. The album is looking at a March release on Sub Pop records.

A lot like the previous track to drop from this album, Low has a knack for giving soft, pretty sounds the kind of urgency that reels me in pretty quickly.

The vocal harmonies on "So Blue" are incredibly beautiful, and the song grows in intensity very nicely as piano and guitar chords get hammered harder and harder. Enjoy!

Old Gray- Everything I Let Go & The Things I Refuse To

Old Gray has put together an emotional EP hoping to convey the strong messages with the powerful force of their musical style behind it.

While I may not be a fan of this particular vocalists style of screaming as it seems to be more indecipherable compared to most music in the genre I can still appreciate the power and pain that he is conveying with his screams. Along with that when you click on one of their tracks on Bandcamp it explains the meanings behind the song which is a cool Rap Genius type thing to do. The brand also provides some pretty almost jazz-like grooves that of course grow more intense and twisted.

Half Moon Run- Dark Eyes

Canadian trio Half Moon Run released their album Dark Eyes  back in March and it definitely deserves some recognition.

It is evident right from the beginning of the album that these guys are extremely gifted musicians and they have tremendous amounts of chemistry with each other. Their tracks definitely feel a bit reminiscent of Grizzly Bear, however, they have far more complex grooves and energy under some powerful vocals. The vocals might just be the strongest aspect as it just lends so much personality to their songs as well as their lyrics which have a theme of being a bit twisted in a way that is odd considering how beautiful some of the harmonies are. Above all else these guys feel fresh any comparison that can be made is a relatively small one and that is always a great thing to see in music.
