Omar Souleyman - "Wenu Wenu"

New TrackstheneedledropComment

Syrian pop musician Omar Souleyman has shared a lyric video for the zany but substantial title track from his upcoming LP Wenu Wenu. The song has lively, exotic production courtesy of Four Tet, and Souleyman delivers a strong, spirited vocal performance that manages to be thoroughly engaging despite the repetitive lyrics. So far, the outlook for the album sure is promising.

Wenu Wenu is due out October 22nd via Ribbon Music.

Syrian musician Omar Souleyman has announced that he has a new album titled Wenu Wenu due out on October 22nd via Ribbon Music. Souleyman made this new LP with the help of his right-hand man, Rizan Sa'id, but unlike previous efforts; it was recorded primarily in the studio. Excitingly, Wenu Wenu boasts production courtesy of Four Tet.

The haphazard editing and visual esthetic of the album's trailer wonderfully represent Souleyman's eccentric, electronically-infused take on Syrian folk music. Enjoy!

Laura Marling- "Sophia"

The past few years have seen an influx of British female singer-songwriters of the folk pop variety, but Laura Marling stands out in the pack as a little more credible than the rest. The startlingly young songstress has a new video out for "Sophia," a contemplative folk song with warm strings that eventually transforms into a gentle grooving folk rocker. In the simple video, Marling and her band are playing in a church. She looks a little despondent singing those Nick Drake-reminiscent melodies! Someone should cheer her up.

This track will appear on her forthcoming album A Creature I Don't Know, out September 12th on Ribbon Music. Preorder it here.
