Kijinoise - Kijinoise XIV

New Trackstheneedledrop1 Comment

Here's something that caught my ears while wading through Bandcamp earlier today. Kijinoise is a Chinese musician who has been uploading projects quite prolifically since late last month, using solely a guitar to deliver a fuzzy fusion of drone, noise, progressive rock, doom, and free improvisational elements. The results haven't been totally mind-blowing thus far, but I must say the textures of this self-titled debut are actually quite nice, almost achieving a Sunn O)))-level heaviness at points. Find this guy a label! In the meantime, I'll just wait a few more days for another release.

Update: It appears as though all the above linked projects have been consolidated into this first one, since renamed Kijinoise XIV.

Jumping Back Slash - JBS004

With this fourth and latest self-titled Bandcamp EP, Cape Town electronic musician Jumping Back Slash continues to refine his captivating "afrotronical space music" aesthetic. If you're familiar with JBS's past work, this new set of tracks won't throw you for a loop. All four are laced with tribal percussion, soulful vocal samples, progressive synth washes, and propulsive techno beats--and they're more danceable than ever! Happy listening!

Royal Headache - "Stand and Stare" / "Give It All To Me"

Australian garage punk outfit Royal Headache has a new single out for the track "Stand and Stare" b/w "Give It All To Me." The band still brings their speed, energy, and soulful vocals to the table; however, the recording it a little clearer this time around, which is pretty nice. I'd say the songs are a bit more melodic as well--or at least the melodies aren't drowned out like they were on the band's reverb-soaked debut. Nothing much else to say other than we've got two solid tracks from a rock band worth rooting for! Enjoy!

Kayo Dot - "And He Built Him A Boat"

Between the slightly lo-fi Gamma Knife and the incredibly out-there Coyote, I haven't been too crazy about the more recent material from Toby Driver's Kayo Dot. However, this new track the New York experimental rock band has presented has caught my attention in a very good way.

The romantic and lovingly executed guitars, primal drums, and show-stopping chorus vocals have all wormed their way into my dark and twisted SOUL!!!!!!!!!!!

...

Well, maybe that was a bit of overacting on my part, but the theatrical vibe of this heavy, seven-minute monster is absolutely contagious! Enjoy, and look for this cut among others on the forthcoming Kayo Dot album, Hubardo, in the fall!

Huntronik - Self-Titled

New York's Huntronik brings electronics together with various bits of krautrock, garage rock, lo-fi, and post-punk. It's a pretty interesting amalgamation--mostly because the end result is so difficult to simply pen into one category.
