Krill - "Torturer"

New TracksContributor JonesComment

https://soundcloud.com/krillband/torturer/ Melding elements of punk rock, loads of both metal and garage rock influences and a dash of poppy, melodic lyrics and undertones, Krill's "Torturer" from the forthcoming album A Distant Fist Unclenching is rousing and bludgeoning, yet focused in its wild need to be experimental. The songs explodes with a spirit of desire and longing in the words and in the music in specific spots, leaving open a wide array of interpretation of the songs' central meaning. At around 3:30 in, a grating, shredding guitar takes center stage and brings "Torturer" to a whole new level, and then the music drops down again for a more subversive ending to the tune than we were probably expecting. "Torturer" is the sound of a band with a few years under their collective belts, but still striving to find that signature sound. It's a spirited outing for this Boston trio and should get more people talking about and sharing their music.

A Distant Fist Unclenching is due out 17 February via Exploding in Sound.

Bent Knee - "Battle Creek"

New TracksadminComment

This past summer, I caught on to an epic and somewhat progressive Boston band by the name of Bent Knee. Apparently, a lot of other people did as well, and the unforeseen buzz caused the band to push the release date of their sophomore album back a bit in order to promote the record properly.

Well, November is around the corner now, which means the release of Shiny Eyed Babies is as well, and the band is reminding us with the track "Battle Creek," which is embedded above.

The song starts off with a Floyd-esque guitar lick, and quickly drifts into an ominous drone punctuated with forlorn vocals and plucked strings. It's a gripping start, and the song only gets bigger from there, conjuring grand musical passages that should captivate Sigur Rós and Björk fans alike. The ending is quite whimsical, too.

Keep an ear out for Shiny Eyed Babies on Nov 11th!

Perhaps - Volume 2

Boston "stargaze" trio Perhaps has just made its sophomore effort, aptly named Volume Two, available to stream and buy for name your price on Bandcamp. The album quickly became the best-selling experimental album on the site, and is comprised of only one track, which nears the half hour mark and features some really tight, progressive performances throughout. Give it a listen above!

Tony Falco & Josh Sinton- Internal Combustion

New TracksadminComment

A series of free jazz odysseys on this new collection of tracks from percussionist Tony Falco and saxophonist Josh Sinton. While Falco and Sinton don't create the most relentless or chaotic improvisations, they do get quite noisy and freakish. Stream it via the widget above, or grab it for five bones on Bandcamp.

Pile- Dripping

Bring on the moody, noisy, strange post-hardcore, please. Thank you!

Pile is a Boston band, and Dripping is their latest full-length effort, and I'm really enjoying what I'm hearing on the album thus far. It's a pretty solid offering of slightly off-kilter rock tunage, including some odd time signatures, painful ballads, and heavy guitars.

Some nice magic on these 10 tracks, and you can stream them all in full via the widget above.
