Anna Calvi - "Eliza"

New Trackstheneedledrop1 Comment

English singer-songwriter Anna Calvi has shared the lead single from her upcoming sophomore LP One Breath. An electric art-rock stomp, "Eliza" is certainly an auspicious first taste of her new album. Enjoy!

One Breath is scheduled for release on October 7 through Domino Records.

Julia Holter - "Maxim's I"

The new track from experimental musician Julia Holter is something of a marriage between the forlorn "World" and the lush "In the Green Wild," the first two singles taken from her upcoming LP Loud City Song. "Maxim's I" is a multi-phased song that begins ominously with sparse instrumentation and an overwhelming graininess, but this ultimately gives way to arrangements that have an expansive, almost fantastical post-rock quality to them. The song is accompanied by a fittingly grainy music video comprised of in-studio photographic stills.

Loud City Song is due for release on August 20 via Domino Records.

Also, Julia recently dropped a music video for the track "Our Sorrows," which is a cut that appeared on her previous album. Watch below:

Jon Hopkins - "Open Eye Signal"

Electronic music producer Jon Hopkins drops a hypnotic, new single from his forthcoming album, Immunity, which will be on Domino Records at the start of June. This track is beautifully layered, and I'm just loving the grit and the groove of the beat on this thing. Enjoy!

Twin Sister- "Gene Ciampi"

Last year, just like many on the blogosphere, I was pretty impressed with the tracks Twin Sister was putting out on the net via the EP Color Your Life.

When the band's buzz became too big to ignore, Domino Recs signed 'em, and now we've got a full-length on the way titled In Heaven. A track dropped from it two months ago, but it's this song, "Gene Campi," that's got me looking forward to the eventual release.

On this track, Twin Sister displays the kind of oddball quirks that I look for in my pop music. The twanged guitar leads and whimsical melodica melodies are a nice addition to the band's already solid foundation of vocals, drums, and bass. It's cute, but not too cute. It's simple, but not too simple. It's strange, but not too strange. Look for this LP's relase on Sept. 27th.

King Creosote & Jon Hopkins- "Bubble"

A new video from the new collaborative album between electronica producer Jon Hopkins and one of the UK's more prolific singer-songwriters, King Creosote.

I wouldn't call myself an expert on either of these musicians, but I knew enough to be kind of surprised by the pairing. Hopkins' and Creosote's creative minds might be closer than I originally assumed, though. On "Bubble," the light electronics complements the songwriting perfectly. They add a nice texture without taking away from the warm, soft, and acoustic nature of the instrumentation.

Dig on the video above, and look for this new collaborative album from this duo, Diamond Mine, on Domino Recs.
