Battles- "My Machines" ft. Gary Numan

Videosadmin1 Comment

Hell yes! A new video from one of my favorite albums of this year: Battles' Gloss Drop. Check a glowing review of it here.

Now since this particular track features none other than Gary Numan, I'm psyched that these guys were able to get him in this video. As far as the concept goes, it's like a music video idea OK Go would have--except it's gone horribly, horribly wrong. As a poor escalator victim rolls helplessly down the one that goes up, Battles and Numan perform around him, which is the least they could do. If I were caught in a dicey situation, I'd love a band to come in and soundtrack my misfortune.

Stay safe on escalators.

Sloan Covers Gary Numan

Thanks to the good people at the A.V. Club, we've got a pretty great cover of Gary Numan's "Cars" to munch on. It was performed by Sloan in conjunction with the website's Undercover series, which invites artists to take a crack at covering various songs from a list compiled by the A.V. Club's readers and writers.

Sloan's latest LP is the Double Cross, which is out now via Yep Roc.

Battles- Gloss Drop

Considering this album's lineup change, its group of new guest singers, Gloss Drop must have been a bit of a challenge for Battles. Also, don't forget to add the fact this thing is the band's Sophomore LP, which comes after a highly praised first album. If this was a test, Battles passed with flying pink colors. The instrumentation, musicianship, and grooves throughout this album are intense as hell. And guest vocalists like Matias Aguayo and Yamantaka Eye freaking kill it!

It's one of the most weird and fun and weird and fun and weird and fun and weird and fun albums you'll hear this year.

Ice cream + girl + bathtub + martial arts + musicians = music video.

Battles' next album, Gloss Drop, drops via Warp on June 6th. The LP will feature vocalists such as Matias Aguayo (on this track), Yamantaka Eye, and even Gary "Cars" Numan. Can't wait!
