Mount Eerie - "Lone Bell"

New Trackstheneedledrop1 Comment

Check out a reworked version of "Lone Bell" by experimental folk musician Phil Elverum, a.k.a Mount Eerie. This copiously auto-tuned redux will be featured on Elverum's upcoming project, Pre-Human Ideas, a collection of 12 songs taken from his two 2012 efforts, Clear Moon and Ocean Roar; all of which will feature new lyrics and will be slathered in auto-tuned. He explains the concept as "almost like new songs layered over the old ones, expanding and clarifying the ideas."

Pre-Human Ideas is due out November 12 via his P.W. Elverum & Sun label. A gentle reminder that Clear Moon was pretty swell:

On Mount Eerie's latest effort, Phil Elverum managest to transform is usual sounds and emotions into a repetitive, drone-y, and sometimes ambient musical experience. Mostly, it's beautiful, but a few moments felt a bit overlong to me. Plus, despite being well over 40 minutes, I didn't come away from this album feeling completely satisfied with the songs and material I was dealt. Still, it's a very solid album. Phil keeps the sounds of Mount Eerie potent, strange, and emotionally affecting while changing things up enough to keep his musical trajectory interesting for longtime fans.

Singer-songwriter Phil Elverum drops another song teasing toward the eventual release of the new Mount Eerie album, Clear Moon. Is it too early to gather a sonic theme from this album? Because between this track and the other to drop from this album thus far, Phil is making use of a lot of long, drone-y, and drawn-out repetitions.

The slowly growing instrumentation and saxophones on this track make immersion easy. Phil continues to be a master as creating not just songs, but interesting soundscapes.
