Killer Mike - "Ghetto Gospel"

VideostheneedledropComment

Check out this new music video Killer Mike made for R.A.P. Music cut "Ghetto Gospel." Seeing a Bible-wielding, glasses-clad Killer Mike in his best Church clothes was something I really would've appreciated back in 2012, but better late than never!

A gentle reminder that R.A.P. Music was a pretty stellar LP:

Killer Mike- "Untitled" (Yours Truly Session)

Atlanta rapper Killer Mike recently recorded a live in studio session for Yours Truly for "Untitled," a highlight track from his new LP R.A.P. Music, one of the better hip-hop albums of the year. Watching Mike rap in this video is truly a sight to behold; his flow is at once seemingly effortless and yet so gooey and thick, almost like Biggie Smalls with a Southern accent. He starts out in the zone and remains thoroughly in it throughout "Untitled's" four-minute duration, hitting his stride particularly after the first chorus. Watching a smile creep up on his bearded face by the halfway mark is particularly telling -- you can tell that he knows he's  a badass rapper, and I'm definitely not going to argue with that.

Watch the Yours Truly clip above and pick up R.A.P. Music on Williams Street today.

Stream: Killer Mike- R.A.P. Music The much anticipated collaboration between MC Killer Mike and producer EL-P is now available for streaming in full on Spin. Both of these artists are well known for their hard-hitting styles and it is clear that they wanted this project to be a crushing force to be reckoned with. The production here is consistently great, every song is unique and dense, while maintaining the trade mark noisy rap style El-P is known for. Killer Mike clearly gives it his all on every track, showing his lyrical prowess. The entire project is an example of two artists who have styles that compliment each other making both aspects sound even better.

R.A.P. Music drops May 15th.

Killer Milke- "Don't Die" (LOVED)

After dropping a few tracks from it, I have to say the forthcoming Killer Mike, El-P collaboration, R.A.P. Music, is one of my most anticipated hip hop albums this year. It's placed second only by Death Grips, of course.

This latest track from the Mike-rapped and El-P-produced album goes back to that age old tension between MCs and cops., and it's a dynamic that doesn't feel as extreme as it did during the days of NWA. In fact, I'd say it's been toned down ever since Jay-Z casually told off an officer looking to search his vehicle in "99 Problems."

Mike seems to be conscious the relationship is changing, so he's responded with a track that progresses like an action movie loaded with explosions and gun spray. Yeah, it's pretty exaggerated, building Mike as family man who is on the run from the police because the government hates rap music, but being over the top is what makes this track so entertaining.

El-P's production is absolutely huge, hitting with Lecs Luger snare drums and fat, croaking bass synths. Police sirens are coming in from every direction, and the mid-range synths come through with some pretty quirky sounds, taking the edge off of the track's message a bit.

A lot like the old days of Wu-Tang, this track is rugged & raw. I'd say Mike and El-P are bringing rugged & raw to 2012 in a big way. Stream the song above and look for R.A.P. music on the 15th. Scope the cover below:

This new track from the forthcoming Killer Mike and El-P collaboration is all about the latter’s impressive production and the former's strong personality. The beat has a heavy, heavy groove. The kind that bumps out of sound system-clad cars that drive down neighborhood streets at 10 miles per hour. The groove is incredible thanks to some humming synthesizers and variety of percussion, creating production that grabs hold of attention spans and never lets go. However, Killer Mike does not let the production overpower him. He rides the beat well while making many references to mythology and religion. The quality of the songs released for this collaboration so far have been undeniably great.

Look for R.A.P. Music to drop May 15th.
