A new track from singer-songwriter Kurt Vile, which is dropping via a new EP titled So Outta Reach. Look for it to be released on Matador in November. Sadly, I haven't gotten a chance to review Kurt's Smoke Ring For My Halo yet, I know. But this EP is going to get released along with a deluxe version of Smoke Ring, so maybe that'll be the best time to talk it up, eh?
Well, on this track, "the Creature," Vile builds a swirling world of atmosphere around his finger-picked chord progressions. His drawling voice is almost hypnotizing, and I'm loving the sparse percussion in the background consisting of a shaker and a floor tom. It's a psychedelic desert that I wouldn't mind getting dehydrated in.
