Dirty Projectors - "Impregnable Question"

VideosadminComment

"Impregnable Question" is one of the sweetest songs on Dirty Projectors' last record, 2012's Swing Lo, Magellan. And now, it has a weirdly sweet music video. Featuring long takes of a man running on a highway--alongside gorgeous natural imagery--and a woman carrying big buckets of Mountain Dew, the two finally converge in what appears to be quite the fateful moment. Awwww, love!

Swing Lo, Magellan is out now on Domino. Here's our review of it:

Dirty Projectors- "Dance For You"

Dirty Projectors drop another track from their forthcoming LP, Swing Lo Magellan. This track, and the previous one to be released, are taking the Projectors' sound in a noticeably sweeter, poppier direction. While it's nowhere near as hard-hitting as their earlier material, there's something sneaky about how these tracks have quietly seeped into my subconscious. Tattooing themselves in my musical memory without being completely aware, because I find myself humming their melodies long after I've decided to myself, "yeah, this is alright." I guess I need to listen to my subconscious more often.

This album is coming out on July 10th via Domino Recs.

Dirty Projectors- "Gun Has No Trigger"

Dirty Projectors have a colorful new video out for their swaggering single "Gun Has No Trigger." In the press release, frontman David Longstreth said that they strived for the iconic aesthetic of the iPod commercials from the mid-2000s, and that influence certainly shows. The clip features Longstreth and the other Projectors (sans Angel Deradoorian) silhouetted against a colorful background that transforms as light begins to shine on the changing faces of the band members. Once they're in full view, it's funny to watch their facial expressions as they sing. To achieve the kind of noises that the singers make with their voices must require some serious vocal dexterity, and that definitely comes through in their strained, contorted faces.

"Gun Has No Trigger" was debuted back in April, and will appear on their new record Swing Lo Magellan, out July 10th on Domino.

Dirty Projectors release a new single, teasing toward the release of the band's latest album, Swing Lo Magellan. It'll be out on July 10th via Domino. While Dirty Projectors has had its accessible moments in the past--and the group's albums have definitely been foreshadowing a move toward poppier sounds--it's pretty surprising to hear Dave Longstreth and company on a track like this.

"Gun Has No Trigger" has a pretty straightforward execution, avoiding the of disorienting tempo changes and angular guitar leads that made Bitte Orca a difficult but fun record. While this track isn't exactly a mental workout, the end result is still Dirty Projectors. The icy female vocal harmonies hanging in the background are pretty haunting--especially when then blossom in a very sinister fashion toward the buildup of the chorus.

The drums are crisp and punchy, and Longstreth's lyrics are pretty surreal as well. The track is a light, and easy-to-enjoy fit of mental disturbance.
