FKA Twigs - "Hide" (live video)

VideosjeremyComment

Watch: FKA Twigs - "Hide" Yours Truly just hosted a music event in a small, lush location of Mexico. This included many performances from various artists and bands, including up-and-coming UK singer/songwriter FKA twigs. In this video, she performs her song "Hide", and the natural acoustics do wonders for her sound. A minimalist spine of clack percussion and gorgeous, spacious guitar paves the way for twigs to show off her truly stunning voice. It's evocative stuff.

Danny Brown & Araabmuzik- "Molly Ringwald"

New TrackschriscapComment

Two of 2011's most bombastic and divisive hip-hop artists, Danny Brown and Araabmuzik, have come together to produce a new track as part of Yours Truly's "Songs From Scratch" series. When you think about it, this is a collaboration that was bound to happen. Much like Araabmuzik's relentless MPC button mashing beats, Danny Brown's loudmouthed flow and intensely bizarre lyrics can be pretty annoying sometimes, but when you're in the mood, they just sound great. Together, the result highlights the strengths of both artists. "Molly Ringwald" is a violently fast, utterly unrelenting slice of hardcore hip-hop -- just under two and a half minutes of appropriately gross Danny Brown lyrics delivered with appropriately visceral flow on top of appropriately pummeling beats. There's nothing particularly memorable about this track in particular, but it's worth a few listens if only for the spectacle of hearing these two artists duke it out. Battle rap has been done for decades, but I've never heard a rapper sound like he's literally battling with his producer before this track.

Killer Mike- "Untitled" (Yours Truly Session)

Atlanta rapper Killer Mike recently recorded a live in studio session for Yours Truly for "Untitled," a highlight track from his new LP R.A.P. Music, one of the better hip-hop albums of the year. Watching Mike rap in this video is truly a sight to behold; his flow is at once seemingly effortless and yet so gooey and thick, almost like Biggie Smalls with a Southern accent. He starts out in the zone and remains thoroughly in it throughout "Untitled's" four-minute duration, hitting his stride particularly after the first chorus. Watching a smile creep up on his bearded face by the halfway mark is particularly telling -- you can tell that he knows he's  a badass rapper, and I'm definitely not going to argue with that.

Joey Bada$$- "Daily Routine"

Above is a stream of a brand new Joey Bada$$ track. If you're unfamiliar with the up-and-coming New York rapper, scope this.

Anyway, this track is a part of a series courtesy of Yours Truly and Addidas titled Songs From Scratch, which typically follows the creation of a single song by whichever artist happens to be getting features.

In this installment of Songs From Scratch, Joey Bada$$ works with producer Chuck Strangers on a new track, and explain the creative process a bit in this video:

The song itself shoots for a classic, 90s-inspired hip hop sound, and gives away some bits of Joey's past: "Used to bed ma dues for lunch money, hunnies used to run from me when pockets was dust bunnies. Now what's funny?" It's got a solid, lyrical hook and an extremely relaxed vibe. I can dig it. Here's the cover art:
