Concertgoers have always fought for a coveted spot on the barricade, but some fans are apparently taking "don't lose your place" a little too seriously.

The increasingly bizarre trend of people refusing to leave the front row, even when nature calls, has become a growing issue at concerts, with artists and venue staff now speaking out after multiple incidents involving fans relieving themselves in the crowd.

The conversation exploded last month when Olivia Rodrigo admitted she'd noticed an unsettling trend from the stage.

"People wear diapers so that they can be front row," Rodrigo revealed. "That's been an experience as a performer that I have smelled."

Unfortunately, it isn't an isolated problem.

At a recent Noah Kahan concert, a video showing a stadium employee cleaning up human waste in the pit went viral, prompting the singer to address the incident on social media.

Rather than let the moment die, Kahan has continued turning the unfortunate incident into a recurring joke on his tour. At a recent show in Toronto, he even had the crowd recite a tongue-in-cheek pledge promising they wouldn't poop their pants, or, if they somehow did, they wouldn't take it out of their pants and leave it on the floor.

The singer revisited the topic again Wednesday night during his performance at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., while performing his recurring fake phone booth comedy bit.

"Hellooo Congress… oh, people have been pissing all over the floor at my shows as well?" Kahan joked. "You guys are ordering by act of Congress that everyone has to wear diapers before they get in, is that what we've come to? Alright, you heard Congress: Fuckin' put some diapers on next time."

The fake "Congress" ruling is a callback to one of Kahan's running jokes. In 2022, he jokingly declared on social media that fans were "legally" required to wear flannel to his concerts thanks to "new legislation" passed through Congress.

Kahan isn't the only artist dealing with increasingly questionable concert etiquette. Earlier this week, police began investigating after a fan at a Morgan Wallen show claimed he, his brother and his niece were urinated on by another attendee. Last year, another viral incident at a Sabrina Carpenter concert saw someone reportedly urinate on the floor in the standing section, while stories of similar accidents have surfaced at shows ranging from 5 Seconds of Summer to festivals across North America.

As fans continue to pushing to secure the best view in the house, let us all remember: no spot on the barricade is worth turning the pit into a porta potty.
