Björk's orchestral live album to get long-awaited full release

Five years on from her series of Orkestral shows at Reykjavík's stunning Harpa concert hall, Björk has at last announced a worldwide physical release for her October 2021 performance with a 50-person choir that she herself was once a member of.

Previously available only as a limited edition release at the National Gallery of Iceland, Björk Okestral with the Hamrahlíð Choir will reach the rest of the world on November 27 via One Little Independent, on vinyl, CD, DVD, and Blu-Ray, and features 11 songs largely drawn from her experimental vocal album Medúlla, with songs from Vespertine, Biophilia, Volta, and SelmaSongs making up the rest of the tracklist.

Watch a clip of "New World" from the SelmaSongs album below:

The performance was conducted by Þorgerður Ingólfsdóttir, with musical director Bergur Þórisson also contributing organ and electronics. Proceeds from the original concert series were donated to a women’s shelter in Reykjavík.

Writing in a press release, Björk says:

"i am so happy and proud of this concert .. we all put enormous love , energy and time into it . i have learned slowly through the years , about the juxtaposition of voices and the electronic ... for me it is a philosophical matter , how nature and technology can coexist amicably . i got an opportunity to learn how to get this balance just right , through extensive rehearsals in the space we got in covid . it is often easier for me to do this on the recordings , but here we did it physically live . and i could tweak older songs that i felt i hadn´t acquired experience yet how to perform live."
