Carly Rae Jepsen reveals how "Call Me Maybe" influenced this signature 'Emotion' song

For most musicians, the idea of having a song go platinum in over a dozen countries is an absolute dream, but for Carly Rae Jepsen, her smash hit "Call Me Maybe" became a little overwhelming, to the point where it actually inspired a song on her 2015 album, E•MO•TION.

Discussing the story behind her song "Run Away With Me" with Spotify as part of her takeover of the EQUAL playlist, Jepsen revealed that the triumphant album opener was born from feeling flooded by her smash single's swift success.

"'Run Away With Me' is a song I wrote when I was a little overwhelmed by the height of things after 'Call Me Maybe,'" Jepsen explained. "I wanted to escape it all with someone I felt connected to, and this song was born from that feeling."

With well over 2 billion lifetime streams since the song was released in 2011 on Spotify alone, "Call Me Maybe" is unquestionably Jepsen's most popular mainstream song. "Run Away With Me," however, is no slouch, having been streamed almost 200 million times on Spotify despite no major radio play.

After celebrating E•MO•TION's 10th anniversary in 2025 with a deluxe edition and a special concert at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, Jepsen has returned with four new songs in 2026 in preparation for her forthcoming double album Day and Night, which is scheduled to be released on September 18 by Schoolboy and Interscope.
