Chat Pile announce new record 'Who Loves the Sun'

The sludge metal band Chat Pile are back today announcing a new album, Who Loves the Sun, out September 4 via The Flenser. They've also shared the lead single "Deep Blue," as well as dates for an upcoming tour.

Chat Pile released an accompanying music video for their new single, directed by Stephen Mondics. Watch/listen to "Deep Blue" below:

The new track tackles the main theme of the band's third record: in response to the rapid deterioration of society at the hand of technology and capital, Chat Pile aim to dig into the dirt for something organic and real. "Technology is rapidly ruining our lives," says vocalist and lyricist Ray B. about the brooding, clouded, and dark new single. "All promise [is] seemingly squandered on the worst things, like killing people, wasting resources, destroying art- shrinking our brains and pulling us further apart than ever before."

The record airs out a list of the band's grievances, taking action against "AI, genocide, climate change, the power elite, $$$$ hoarding pigs," per Ray G. "All that shit fucks up your life and mine." Leaning into the earthiness of noise rock and sludge, yet still incorporating some hook-y lyricism and melodic guitars and vocals reminiscent of the early 2000s, Chat Pile aim to craft a distinctly human sound.

Chat pile are currently on tour in Australia/New Zealand. In August, they'll pick their travels back up in Europe for a brief festival tour, as well as a handful of headline dates in Ireland. Once the album's out in September, they'll kick off the US leg of the tour, beginning in their hometown of Oklahoma City before making their way across the country. Tickets are available now.
