Eminem defends partnership with Kid Rock on album collab

Earlier this month, Kid Rock announced his Christian album Halfway 2 Jesus, which is set to feature a collaboration with rapper Eminem. After much backlash from fans about the team-up, the rapper took to social media on Friday night to defend his collaboration with Kid Rock.

Eminem said in the post, "Not about choosing sides, just choosing to make music with my old friend. Praying for all of us," alongside a snippet of the track in which he is featured, "Heal My Faith."

Kid Rock and Eminem share Michigan roots; however, the two artists differ sharply on politics. Kid Rock has been an avid Donald Trump and Republican Party supporter, while Eminem largely lies on the opposite side of the political spectrum.

Kid Rock has been fiercely outspoken in his support of Trump's presidency. And not only verbally – the artist has also performed at various Republican events, such as the 2024 Republican National Convention and the Turning Point USA "All-American Halftime Show." The aforementioned halftime show was set up in protest of Bad Bunny's Super Bowl LX halftime show, which garnered 128.2 million viewers as opposed to TPUSA's 6.1 million.

Politics aside, Kid Rock has received well-deserved backlash for controversial lyrics in many of his songs. Most notably, Rock sings in his track "Cool, Daddy Cool" of his affinity for young women:

Young ladies, young ladies
I like 'em underage, see
Some say that's statutory
But I say it's mandatory

Eminem is no stranger to controversial lyrics, as many of his tracks contain misogynistic, homophobic, and violent lines. Where the rapper differs from Rock is his anti-Republican political views. Eminem has been vocal in his vitriol toward the current president and in his support of the Kamala Harris-Tim Walz campaign.

Nonetheless, the two have put their differences aside for the religious track, with the full album releasing Saturday, October 17th.
