Ahead of their fifth album Dopamine Chamber's release this Friday, the Irish alt rock group Fontaines D.C. have shared their third promotional single, "Where Is Gone?", which features Spanish avant-pop artist ROSALÍA. It's the band's first collaborative track under their name.
Listen to "Where is Gone?" below:
“I’ve been a fan of ROSALÍA since her debut album, which was absolutely beautiful," says guitarist Carlos O'Connell, in reference to 2017's Los Ángeles, via press release. "What really excited me was how she was keeping a Spanish tradition of music alive, which in a spiritual way felt akin to what we’ve tried to do with Irish music." O'Connell, who grew up in Madrid in a multicultural household, continued: "For someone with roots in both countries, it’s been beautiful to see. She’s an artist who’s blown me away at every stage since."
The new track brings together some of the orchestral flourishes of ROSALÍA's latest album LUX, beginning with a lethargic, eerie strings passage that later folds into a dreamy, gothic rock chorus. Front man and vocalist Grian Chatten and her split the verses, which depict total dissociation in the face of artificial beauty, fading memories, and apathy.
Dopamine Chamber is out October 16 via XL Recordings. Singles "Marianne" and "Tongue" are out now.
