Today, the Dutch noise punk band Grote Geelstaart have released a new single, "Nat Zeil", an experimental thrash of guitars, drums, and a free jazz ensemble that will be the last single before the band shares Wij Zinken, their second EP, on September 18 via KERNCENTRALE.

Like many a Grote Geelstaart track, "Nat Zeil" raves to its own time signature, locking into a rhythm only as more instruments pile on and fight for dominance. The band invited session players for the first time to play over their hardcore composition, allowing a flutist, violinist, saxophonist, and trumpeter to improvise over the derailing melody.

The single was inspired by the band's home province of Zeeland — a collection of islands and peninsulas almost completely cut off by the sea — and the folklore that emerged from the place's foreboding yet poetic landscape. The new single tells the story of a drunk sailor lost at sea, spinning heroic tales until a voice (embodied in a thick, Zeelandic accent) finishes his narrative for him, per a press release.

"Nat Zeil" follows the release of "Vracht 7", an equally propulsive and wild track. Both will appear on Wij Zinken, the band's second EP due for release September 18.
