Jennifer Finch, bassist/vocalist for grunge legends L7, has died at age 59.

It was announced just days ago that she was battling an aggressive form of brain cancer and wouldn't be able to participate in the U.S. leg of the band's final tour that they've been on presently. The band and loved ones created a GoFundMe for her that got a massive amount of attention when peers like Courtney Love posted it on their official accounts.

Finch and Love go way back to the start of both their careers when they both played in the San Francisco band Sugar Baby Doll with Babes in Toyland frontwoman Kat Bjelland. All three went on to form majorly influential bands in the '90s partly associated with inspiring the riot grrrl movement.

In Finch's case, L7 first won attention with 1990's rough-edged Smell the Magic, which featured bangers co-written by Finch such as "Deathwish" before the band signed to a major label and got Nevermind producer Butch Vig to produce the crunchy, sparkling classic Bricks Are Heavy in 1992. The song "Pretend We're Dead" became an actual alt-radio hit and Finch's own "One More Thing" was a highlight. Finch stayed with the band for one more album, 1994's Hungry for Stink, before departing to play in her bands Otherstarpeople and the Shocker. She joined L7 for their 2014 reunion, toured with the band again and played on 2019's comeback album Scatter the Rats.

Finch's loved ones posted the following statement on her Instagram:

We are devastated to announce the death of our partner, sister, daughter, and friend Jennifer Precious Finch. Jennifer’s impact on the world of music was seismic; her impact on our lives, even moreso. We appreciate everyone’s interest and concern, thank you for all the kind messages. We appreciate some space to heal privately during this difficult time.
