Kacey Musgraves's birthday show at the United Center in Chicago on Friday was less about her and more about supporting immigrant children who have lost their parents to deportation.
"These kids need help," Musgraves said during a brief intermission on the first night of her Middle of Nowhere Tour. As a birthday request, the Grammy Award-winning artist urged fans to donate to The Young Center, a Chicago-based organization that aids and advocates for immigrant children struggling without their parents.
According to a report published by Brookings, more than 145,000 children have had their parents deported and/or detained since the beginning of the current administration.
