Karol G's foundation raises $1.2 million for Colombia earthquake victims

On Sunday (Aug. 23), Karol G livestreamed into the Colombia: Voices for Life fundraising event to support Colombians affected by the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that hit the Western side of the country on August 10.

The event, held at the Vive Claro Distrito Cultural in Bogotá, raised $3.6 million total (more than 11 billion Colombian pesos), with Karol's Con Cora foundation raising $1.2 million alone.

Alongside Karol, Maluma, Draco Rosa, Luis Alfonso, Sebastián Yatra, and more than 30 other Latinx artists participated in the event and showed their support.

Karol, who called in from San Francisco, performed "Coleccionando Heridas" and "Milagros," sharing the following statement with the crowd between songs:

"Many of us — most of us, maybe all of us — have found these days incredibly difficult, seeing how our people are going through such a tough situation. We feel frustrated; it feels selfish to sleep, it feels wrong to be far away...At the same time, it’s been incredible to see how, in moments like these, we show who we are and what we Colombians are made of: love, solidarity, empathy, tolerance, the ability to come together, to support one another, to unite and to live as a community."
