It's been just over three years since electronic pop duo Sylvan Esso put out their last album, No Rules Sandy, but today they are back with a brand new song. "WDID", their first new material since that LP, is out now, and also marks their first release on their own label, Psychic Hotline.
Catch the song below:
While Sylvan Esso's Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn have put out other artists' music via their Psychic Hotline label – such as recent records from Daughter of Swords, Ichiko Aoba, and William Tyler – this is the first new music the pair have issued on their own imprint.
Additionally, they have decided not to release the single on Spotify, and have removed their other material from the service as well (as many other artists have also begun doing in recent months). They expand:
"As we prepare to release new music, we have to decide what we want to be a part of and what we don't. To that end, with Sylvan Esso being on our own label for the first time, we have decided to remove our music from Spotify. While no solution is perfect, we simply can't continue to put our life's work in a store that, in addition to all its other glaring flaws, directly funds war machines. Reaching towards the world we all deserve, even though we are not in it yet."
The song will be put out on physical 12" vinyl, backed by a b-side called "KEEP ON", and will be available on other streaming services.
