Gravel-voiced auteur Tom Waits and trip-hop titans Massive Attack don't have much in common, but both have been pretty reluctant to put out new material.

But wait! Looks like April 16th will see some good news for fans of either (or both, as this author is).

The social media accounts for Waits and Massive Attack posted a teaser with that date and the text "Boots On the Ground." Subsequently, a pre-order link has become available, for what appears to be a single with that name.

Massive Attack has hinted at new music coming in 2026, while Waits hasn't put out an album since Bad As Me in 2011.

Check out Massive Attack's post below. The Waits upload was removed shortly after being posted. According to a comment on the r/tomwaits subreddit: "The Tom Waits instagram account posted a video of a black background with the text 'Boots on the Ground' and heavy breathing/panting sounds over top of it (it sounded like Tom, at least as much as the sound of breathing can sound like someone). It was deleted after a few minutes."
