Total Victory- "National Service"

New TracksadminComment

A new track from up-and-coming UK post-punk outfit National Service. It's got a heavy, melodic, and Interpol-like personality to it that I'm digging a lot. The vocals are notably passionate as well. Hear other tracks from these guys on Bandcamp.

While getting caught up in the emotive hardcore revival movement that's been gaining steam here in the United States in the past few years, I have unfortunately ignored a lot of the similar music that's been coming out on the other side of the pond. After hearing Distal, the new album by British punks Crash of Rhinos, I'm seriously regretting not having explored this side of emo music earlier.

The Derby-based band released this LP back in April, and went on to tour with such United States punk institutions as Algernon Cadwallader, 1994! and Lemuria when those bands went on their respective European tours. Their sound certainly has ties to twinkly emo music, but with a more experimental edge than their American peers. The songs are longer, the instrumentation is heavier, and the riffs pack more of a punch. Out of the seven tracks on Distal, four of them clock in at over 6 minutes. It can be a little hard to handle that much of this type of music within a single song, but if you're in the mood for some engaging post-hardcore, this is worth checking out.

Distal is out now as a double vinyl LP on Triste Records, but seems to be sold out. It can be downloaded for whatever price you want at their bandcamp page.
