Silver Mt. Zion - "Birds Toss Precious Flowers"

New Trackstheneedledrop2 Comments

https://soundcloud.com/constellation-records/birds-toss-precious-flowers Having dropped the art rock wonder Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything earlier this year, Thee Silver Mt. Zion is readying a new "remix" EP that will be released just later this month. It is called Hang on to Each Other and features two lengthy revamps of the song of the same name from the collective's 2005 effort Horses in the Sky.

Now, I'm wondering if fellow post-rock act Mogwai stole the name Rave Tapes from them, as judging from the EP's B-side, "Birds Toss Precious Flowers," that would be a fitting name for this project. This song is a headlong foray into electronic dance music...and the guys and gals at Thee Silver Mt. Zion actually pull it off. While it doesn't remotely resemble the mostly acapella track it purports to have used as a "launching point," the track is a true-blue house odyssey that remains captivating for its full 12 minutes. I can't say I was expecting this from the band, but hell, I think now I'd like to them go totally electronic for a release in the future.

From the band: "It’s like that famous quote that Emma Goldman never said = "DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION"!"

Hang on to Each Other is due out April 29 via Constellation. A gentle reminder the band's latest full-length is amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_UR-FF5h2I

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra - "Austerity Blues" (excerpt)

While they have a name that has gone through multiple iterations before arriving at this current one, Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra have been fairly consistent. Grand, orchestral (sorry!) songs with elements of folk and post-rock thrown into the pot, Silver Mt. Zion make big songs, and this new one is no exception, although it is definitely more along the same rock-oriented lines of their great previous album, Kollaps Tradixionales. To be fair, it is only an excerpt of a 14-minute song, but "Austerity Blues" (from their new, very Silver Mt. Zion-esque-named album Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything) is a pummeling, driving force that wends through a few different phases across its run time, getting more interesting as it goes.

Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything is out January 21, via Constellation.
