Aleph has some pretty hard-hitting tech house highlights, but most of the subdued tracks just simply aren't as engaging, and only seem like they exist to balance out the aggressive moments here--a lot of which sound very similar.
Arabrot - Self-Titled
ReviewsCommentNorway's Arabrot brings together elements of sludge and noise rock, gracing this hellish marriage with some of the most eccentric vocals I've heard all year.
Silver Arm - "Steady Like A Vein"
VideosCommentA chilling new single from Silver Arm with the track "Steady Like A Vein." On this track, the band's post-punk leanings head into dark territory with wailing guitars, shouted vocals, and some grimy baselines. Enjoy!
Phuture Doom - Self-Titled LP
New Tracks2 CommentsAn interesting fusion of electro house, industrial rock, black metal, and more on this new Phuture Doom album. Plenty of hard-hitting tracks on this thing. Enjoy!
Sunn O))) & Ulver - "Eternal Return" (excerpt)
New TracksCommentAn excerpt from a soon-to-be-released track that features the artistic of both Sunn O))) and Ulver. Yes, Sunn O))) and Ulver! If you're into the heavier and darker side of music, these are two names you're undoubtedly familiar with, and to see them together in front of one song title is pretty exciting.
The excerpt streaming above is pretty moving, and there's more where that came from--obviously. Of course the entirety of "Eternal Return" hasn't been revealed, and there are two more songs which land on this forthcoming LP, Terrestrials, as well.
The LP's release date is looking like February 4th at this point. Enjoy what you hear in this stream until then!
Nils Frahm - "Toilet Brushes" (Live)
VideosCommentA captivating live rendition of "Toilet Brushes," which is one of many cuts off the latest album from minimalist composer Nils Frahm, Spaces. The LP is out now on Erased Tapes. Enjoy!
St. Vincent - "Birth in Reverse"
New TracksCommentShe's back! Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent, has announced that her long-awaited new record, St. Vincent, the follow up to her fantastic 2011 LP Strange Mercy, will be out February 25. The first single to drop from it is "Birth in Reverse," a banging, electric, percussive track with killer guitar licks (as per usual for Ms. Clark, the little wiz). The song opens with the bound-to-be-infamous line "Oh what an ordinary day / Take out the garbage, masturbate," but don't let that first impression turn you away. The song blossoms into a super catchy chorus, and it's all so lovingly, beautifully produced. This is going to be good, I can tell.
St. Vincent is out Feb 25, via Loma Vista. Rock out to the single above!
Indian - "Rhetoric of No"
New Tracks1 CommentGruesome and abrasive, this new track from sludge metal hellions Indian is not for the faint of heart. "Rhetoric of No" is a dismal display of heaviness and aggression, offering no relief in terms of melody or even a catchy vocal. It's an auditory beating that grows more intense as it continues. Uh, enjoy!
