Half Moon Run- Dark Eyes

Canadian trio Half Moon Run released their album Dark Eyes  back in March and it definitely deserves some recognition.

It is evident right from the beginning of the album that these guys are extremely gifted musicians and they have tremendous amounts of chemistry with each other. Their tracks definitely feel a bit reminiscent of Grizzly Bear, however, they have far more complex grooves and energy under some powerful vocals. The vocals might just be the strongest aspect as it just lends so much personality to their songs as well as their lyrics which have a theme of being a bit twisted in a way that is odd considering how beautiful some of the harmonies are. Above all else these guys feel fresh any comparison that can be made is a relatively small one and that is always a great thing to see in music.

Religious Girls- I Want To Believe

3-piece experimental outfit from California who are pretty difficult to describe to anyone who has not heard them before.

There is a certain element of mathcore to them, but they branch off into all kinds of ridiculous directions like pop and electronic music. They really excel at just mashing all of these aspects together into one sometimes gorgeous and sometimes "what is this?" sound that is simply, Religious Girls. It would be easy to see their mish mash of genres as completely random from a distance, but if you give it a real listen you can plainly see just how technical all these aspects are, especially since they play these songs live as well. Not only is it technically impressive, but these guys break into some truly great jams as well; jams that clearly feed off of their chemistry with one another. That organic feeling of people working together perfectly in music is something I will never tire of and is very evident here.

Fucked Up- "Queen of Hearts"

The latest single from Fucked Up's David Comes to Life is both hard-hitting and thematic. The fierce punk energy that make this Canada band's previous work so extreme remains intact as the band pulls together a track that begins the story that opens up this forthcoming concept album. The lyricism is detailed and the melodies are triumphant, which make the rough vocals and high-volume distortion so easy to take in. It's like a punk'd out version of sunshine. Bask in it.
