Moonface - "Everyone is Noah, Everyone is the Ark"

New Tracksadmin2 Comments

Canadian singer-songwriter Spencer Krug is getting ready to drop a new album under his Moonface project, which I wasn't really excited about until I heard the track streaming above. Why? Honestly, I feel "Everyone is Noah, Everyone is the Ark," has the kind of raw passion and lyrical focus that I've been looking for from Spencer since the last Sunset Rubdown album, Dragonslayer.

The instrumentation on this track is simple, consisting of Spencer's vocals and some grandiose piano chords, but I couldn't ask for more. Hopefully, every track on the forthcoming Krug album will be just as fiery. Julia with Blue Jeans On will be out on Jagjaguwar on October 29th.

The Knife - "A Tooth For An Eye" (LOVED)

Swedish electronic duo, The Knife, is firing on all cylinders with this new sonically pleasing track.

The Knife have never feared doing their own thing, and are continuing to put out great electronic tracks with almost every outing, this song certainly keeps that up. I cannot believe how this track manages to hit every note to make it the ultimate ear pleaser. A lot of the sounds produced make me think of more a dance-like version of the trance music Moonface was going for on Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I'd Hoped. The chopped and high sung vocals really give it a feeling that purely belongs to The Knife at this point, it even feels reminiscent of tribal singing at points, all making for a very cool and pleasing listen.

Moonface- "I'm Not The Phoenix Yet"

I am a huge sucker for Spencer Krugs lyrical style and vocal delivery, there's a fantastical quality about it that still remains raw with emotion, it feels genuinely unique. Of course he is best known for his bands: Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown. His new focus is collaborative/solo project under the name Moonface; a project that I feel is fairly underrated. The last album he released earlier this year was doing with kraut rock band Siinai called, Heartbreaking Bravery.

"I'm Not The Phoenix Yet" is the third song to have a video made for from the album. For the video they seem to have spliced together a bunch of shots from a VHS workout tape and cut them along to the song. It has an oddly hypnotic effect and after some consideration actually accents they lyrics and song nicely. Certainly not something one would expect from a video that is essentially scantily clad women thrusting and punching, but it totally happened.

Moonface- "Teary Eyes And Bloody Lips"

A haunting stop-motion video has been released to accompany the Moonface track "Teary Eyes and Bloody Lips." The video fits the songs lyrics and melody well, featuring many empty and desolate locales. Using static backgrounds the stop emotion effect makes these still images still feel lively by having an object moving through them along with heavy use of blur and after image. There is a great use of filters as much of the beautiful scenery is made to look darker and hold some more significant meaning.

Look for Heartbreaking Bravery April 17th or listen to the full album at The A.V Club http://www.avclub.com/articles/stream-moonfaces-with-siinai-heartbreaking-bravery,72120/

Moonface- “Headed For the Door”

A new, sprawling track from Spencer Krug's Moonface project, which will be collaborating on its next album with the Finnish band Siinai. The LP's titled Heartbreaking Bravery, and it will be coming out on April 17th.

"Headed For the Door" is a pretty atmospheric track, featuring a patient beat and steady keys; along with some light percussion soaked in reverb in the background that gives a raindrop effect. Krug's vocal delivery and lyrics are on point as usual, giving the whole track his trademark mysterious and abstract style. Eventually, it builds into some whining guitars for an added splash effect, while Krug does a spoken word portion reminiscent of Sonic Youth.

Moonface- "Teary Eyes and Bloody Lips"

Singer-songwriter Spencer Krug, a man known for his eccentric and drawn-out tunes in bands like Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown, has released a new track with his more experimental side project, Moonface. A new album has been announced. The title: Heartbreaking Bravery. It's a collaboration with the band Siinai, and is set to release April 17 on Jagjaguwar.

Siinai is a band that hails from Finland and accompanied Wolf Parade on a tour back in 2009. The song they’ve put out abandons the focus on specific instruments like the previous Moonface releases did with the marimba and organ. This creates a sound that fans of Wolf Parades more pop focused songs should be accustomed to. Krug's lyrics and vocal delivery are as mysterious and abstract as you would expect. This could end up being the album fans have been waiting to hear since the Wolf Parade hiatus was announced.
