Sannhet - Lion's Eye

Instrumental metal outfit Sannhet has a new, two-track EP out, which you can stream above and buy here. While not as atmospheric and thunderous as some of the tracks from the band's Known Flood album earlier this year, I'm enjoying the anthemic melodies and purposeful drumming that flows throughout these two tracks--especially the second one. Putting out these tracks was definitely a nice move for Sannhet, keeping me interested in where their progression is moving in 2014.

Sannhet - "Absecon Isle"

It's 2013, and if you're into underground metal, you've probably heard a few dozen atmospheric black metal bands by now. And while I'm not saying the one I'm about to show you is breaking the mold in any radical way, this tune from their forthcoming album is pretty sweet.

Sannhet's "Absecon Isle" has that modern black metal atmosphere and sound, but comes through with a straightforward post-rock structure. The roller coaster-style climaxes come one after another after tense buildups of black beats and speedily strummed guitar chords.

Look for Sannhet's new album on Feb. 19th via Sacrament Music.
