Danny Brown - Old

Reviewsadmin4 Comments

Rapper Danny Brown returns with Old. It's an album that mirrors the Detroit native's constant cycle of drug-fueled partying and remorse that was introduced on 2011's XXX. The major difference this time around being heavier instrumentals and Danny's split personalities feeling even more at odds.

Danny Brown- "Change"

Detroit rapper Danny Brown scales back the raunch for this new single, which is teasing toward the dude's next album, Danny Johnson. Apparently Blu and Mainframe are handling the production on the LP, and you'll be able to find it eventually on New World Color.

About the song: This is an extremely toned down version of Danny, which is gonna be a surprise for those who first heard of him thanks to last year's XXX. The album showcased a loud, nasally, and dangerous nut who could outdrink, outsmoke, and outsnort anyone--oh, yeah, and outrap.

However, the mixtape wasn't without its moments of clarity. "Change" definitely goes further down that road with Danny reflecting a bit on life in general since his recent rise to popularity. Though its not as hard-hitting, Danny at least keeps his experiences and personal thoughts honest on this spot of introspection.

Danny Brown- "Radio Song"

Danny Brown drops a video for one of my favorite tracks off of last year's XXX. It's one of the most obnoxious songs on the mixtape, and it's meant to be. Not only are Danny's lyrics a sharp criticism of the music business, but the instrumental and singing bring the song as far away from "radio friendly" as possible.

MP3

A new track from Danny Brown, which if off a forthcoming EP of collaborations between him and producer Black Milk. Detroit forever!

The EP's title is Black and Brown, of course, and it's gonna see a release on Fat Beats on November 1st. Here's the track list:

1.Sound Check 2. Wake Up 3. Loosie 4. Zap 5. Jordan VIII 6. Dada 7. WTF 8. LOL 9. Dark Sunshine 10. Black and Brown

The track above features a beat from Paul White, and samples Brian Eno's "St. Elmo's Fire," which gives it a really odd texture for a hip hop track.
