XXYYXX - "PDX-SEA"

New Tracksalex nicoll1 Comment

On this new track, teenage wunderkid producer XXYYXX shows great growth and potential as an ambient artist. The song title references an airplane ride from Portland (PDX) to Seattle (SEA); within the constant change of the bells' melody there are little engine-like noises and airy strings. The track sounds like a journey through the clouds on a rainy day, and ends with the sound of rain over water-logged Seattle. XXYYXX's early work pegged him as a basic future garage producer, but this song shows that he could expand into many different territories with great skill.

Giraffage & XXYYXX - "Even Though"

A video has been released to accompany the collaboration between producers Giraffage and XXYYXX. The visuals are inspired by the album artwork done for Tame Impala by Leif Podhajsky. They use ordinary footage of random scenery and combine it with a kaleidoscope effect that coincides with the pace of the song. The color of the scenery also changes with the beat adding an extra touch to the already psychedelic style of this video. The way the visuals perfectly accompany the song definitely makes this video worth a watch.

Producers Giraffage and XXYYXX have collaborated together on a new song and remix EP entitled Even Though. The EP features on an original mix from the two beat-makers and 4 remixes done by various artists including Teen Daze. The original track successfully combines the unique styles these two have and mashing them together creating a fresh and undeniably full sounding song. The best moments are when the tracks swells all of its synthesizers together to a densely layered boiling point.

The remixes all offer a great deal variety all providing their own tempos and flair offering a new perspective on the original track.

XXYYXX- Mystify

Floridian producer XXYYXX just dropped his self-titled mixtape a couple of weeks ago, but the beat maker is already at it again with a new EP. Titled Mystify, the release features six lucid, off-kilter beats that would sound right at home among the Brainfeeder crew, as well as the atmospheric glitch hop of artists like Shlohmo and Teebs. Stream the EP above, and if you like what you're hearing, throw XXYYXX a dollar to download it in its entirety.

XXYYXX- Self-Titled

Stream the self-titled mixtape from up-and-coming electronic music producer, XXYYXX, though the widget above. The guy hails from Florida, and his music is an amalgamation of nearly every new sound sprouting up in electronic music right now. There are loads of chopped, looped, and pitch-shifted vocal samples, giving off a pretty healthy James Blake or Burial vibe. There's a nice bleak, atmospheric aesthetic to these songs as well, reminding me a lot of Zomby. Of course, some skittering footwork rhythms make it into the mix of a few tracks, and a few "cloud rap" moments that call out to the likes of Clams Casino occur, too.

The guy clearly has a great ear for style and detail. If he didn't, I don't think he would have been able turn this project around from what is was. The earliest tracks this project has released were instrumental hip hop beats. An example:

A lotta tracks on this mixtape are pretty solid, but it would be great to hear something a little more definitive come out of this project in the future. So, you can grab this mixtape on Bandcamp for whatever price you'd like.

I'm not single. I actually haven't been single for around three years now. Still, this new beat from xxyyxx still brings out those "forever alone" feelings everybody's had at one point or another.

A beautiful and pitch-shifted vocal sample loops against a beat that's interesting for a couple reasons. For one, the rhythmic parts its built of all seem to be playing at completely different volumes. The light, clicking hi-hats serve as a background texture, while the bass kicks are large and hard-hitting.

A great listen made from simple edits and sounds. A show that overdoing it is overdone.
