Fresh off a weekend at the Daisy Chain Fields festival, Alanis Morissette is taking someone to court, alleging she was a victim of a “calculated blackmail campaign” for money. It involves a bag seized at an airport that allegedly contained drugs.

Morissette filed the lawsuit on Tuesday in a Los Angeles federal court. In a six-page complaint from Courthouse News, Keren Urinov was hired to be a temporary tour manager for Morissette’s upcoming tour in 2025. While traveling from the UK to Spain, a bag was flagged at the airport. Urinov told the British Border Force official that it was hers.

Urinov was arrested after officials seized her bag, allegedly stating that the bag contained marijuana and xylazine. When Urinov said the bag was hers, showing proof of her Israeli medical marijuana license, they returned the bag and released her.

The next day, Urinov rejoined Morissette and the team in Spain. When they flew back to the UK together, Urinov was detained again for further questioning about the seized bag. Urinov told Morissette and her team that the bag was still hers.

Now, Morissette is responding to a lawsuit from Urinov demanding that she tell British law enforcement that the alleged drugs were hers. Urinov told Morissette she could “put an end to the matter” if she agreed to employ her as a tour director for 15 years and pay her massive compensation.

Morissette is suing for civil extortion, fraud, negligent misrepresentation, and demands a jury trial. She is seeking compensatory damages in excess of $75,000 and punitive damages.
