Swapmeet, the Australian four-piece behind the buzzy EP Oxalis and the single "I Know!," have officially announced their upcoming debut album, Mount Zero, out July 17 via Winspear. The band also shared the promotional single and second track off the upcoming record, "Sand."
"Sand" comes with a grainy, DIY, and beach-filled music video directed by David Milan Kelly. Watch/listen to the new track below:
Mount Zero began with a road trip, at least conceptually. Blending the easy-going energy of 90s and early-00s guitar rock, layering crisp drums and airy vocals by the dozens until the sound reaches somewhere dreamy and fresh, the new album finds the band coming together. Thematically, the four members drive through their childhoods and adolescence, taking account of all the pressures, trajectories, and directions in life one feels before making important decisions.
Their new single "Sand" also channels the multi-directional quality of the record in its songwriting. Presented as commentary on phones and manufactured addiction, the song opens itself up to introspection. Guitarist, drummer, and vocalist Jack Medlyn says of the track: "'Sand' is about wasting your own time, then being so, so mad at yourself."
Swapmeet signed to LA indie label Winspear — home to villagerrr, Daneshevskaya, Wishy, Winter, and others — earlier in March.
