Today, Dawn Richard has released her new album, Creole Culture, via Merge Records, and she's commemorating the even by sharing a video for the standout track “only fans.”
The video was directed by Lyrik London, who is also a choreographer, creative director, and filmmaker, and uses satire, performance, choreography, and a dystopian version of New Orleans. Watch it here:
Richard said the song plays with the idea of spectatorship and what it means to be an independent artist who is constantly watched, analyzed, copied, and discussed. The title is a deliberate play on platforms like OnlyFans, where people charge for access to themselves, and she flips the dynamic by suggesting that for anyone who wants to study and critique an artist, “maybe you should have to pay for the view.”
Richard will play select shows in support of the album in New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC next month. Tickets are on sale now, and you can see those dates down below.
Tour Dates:
11/04 New York, NY @ Le Poisson Rouge
