Jess Kerber has shared a new single, “Louisiana Song,” from her second album, The World Is Dark, but I Want It to Be Funny, out November 6 via Felte. The Nashville musician wrote the album alone and recorded it primarily at her home studio with her partner, Will Orchard.

“Louisiana Song” follows the album’s lead single, “Changing.” Watch it here:

Kerber says the song is about her home state of Louisiana and growing up in a place that feels so far from everything else. She noted that Louisiana “has a tinge of tragedy that’s forever built in,” pointing to the amount of coastline the state loses each day, and the strangeness of knowing you may not be able to return to the place you came from.

Kerber also notes that everything on the album is written by her alone in a room, and that the home studio setup suits her pace of life, with recording sessions fitting in after dinner or coffee.

Kerber recently wrapped a tour of the Northeast that included a New York City stop with Constant Smiles and Benoit Pioulard.
