Kim Gordon pays tribute to the Knicks on Fallon

At 73, Kim Gordon is better connected to pop culture than almost any other septuagenarian. The former Sonic Youth icon properly launched a solo career in 2019 that's wielded three albums of grimy, abstract beats decorated by her signature speak-singing that increasingly dallied with current hip-hop, even garnering a Grammy nomination for the song "Bye Bye," based on an instrumental Playboi Carti allegedly rejected.

This year's Play Me is right in that same vein, and the deadpan title track is even based around a funky horn sample that De La Soul might've crushed in the early '90s.

Gordon stopped by The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon last night to perform the song with a live band (and sampler operator).

Being New York's finest, she was also sporting a Knicks jersey bearing the name and number of Jalen Brunson, MVP from the NBA Finals who just gave the Knicks their first championship win in 53 years. Even purveyors of avant-noise love a feel good NYC sports story. The song was good, too.

Watch Gordon's performance below.
