As poet and pop singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey once said, "Go play your video game..."
Today, the artist released her new single, "First Light", the theme song for the upcoming, James Bond-themed video game, 007: First Light, published by IO Interactive. The moody, brassy song reimagines the iconic British spy's origins, even weaving in some of the horns and mystic energy of the original theme into the track.

The news of Del Rey's contributions to the Bond universe comes over ten years after she had written Honeymoon's "24" for the 2015 film Spectre, which used Sam Smith's Oscar-winning song, "Writing's on the Wall" instead.
In 2024, Lana Del Rey revisited her wish to write a song for the James Bond franchise in an interview with BBC. "I mean, how has that not happened yet?" she said. “One day, maybe…Probably not, but I’m going to continue to do my little Nancy Sinatra thing every now and then just pretend it’s the title track."

Now, that dream came a sort-of reality with 007: First Light, with music co-written by returning composer David Arnold. On their title track, he praised Del Rey's "elegance and atmosphere," saying in a press release they were "perfectly suited to continuing that tradition while introducing something fresh for a new era." He added:
"The Bond theme is a unique storytelling moment; it has to capture scale, drama, and intrigue all at once. Having been part of that musical lineage, I understand how important it is to honor its heritage while allowing it to evolve."
Hakan Abrak, CEO at IO Interactive, continued:
"It’s a joy to watch two extraordinary talents like Lana Del Rey and David Arnold combine forces, the result feels instantly ‘Bond’ while still bringing a fresh identity for 007 First Light. Bond’s return to gaming is a landmark moment for us at IO Interactive, and having a title song of this quality makes it all the more unforgettable."
This is the first piece of new music from Lana Del Rey since the February release of "White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter," a single off her upcoming record, Stove.
