Olivia Rodrigo has done two things so far this year. She's been rolling out her soon-to-be-here (and massive) third album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, which arrives June 12th, and she's dropped very surprising cover tunes. For BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge today, she did both of these things.
Rodrigo brought a string section with her to perform her acclaimed new single "The Cure," which manages to resemble both Smashing Pumpkins' "Disarm" and Foo Fighters' "Everlong," while being named after one of her favorite bands. Then she covered CMAT's barnburner "When a Good Man Cries," from the Irish sensation's excellent 2025 album Euro-Country.
We happened to have an awesome chat with CMAT for The Needle Drop just a few weeks too early to ask her about this, but you can read that conversation here. But she did share her reaction on Instagram: "she sang it better than me so now im toast. @oliviarodrigo pints?"
You can watch both performances by Ms. Rodrigo below.
