Queen's Roger Taylor returns with new solo LP, shares first single

Roger Taylor is stepping back into the spotlight with a new solo album, Violence Insane in a Beautiful World, due out September 18th through Columbia Records.

To mark the announcement, the Queen drummer has shared the album's first single, "Come On Summer (It's Party Time)," a feel-good collaboration with South Africa's Ndlovu Youth Choir.

Listen:

The 10-track record features nine new songs written by Taylor, along with a cover of John Lennon's classic "Jealous Guy". Taylor handles lead vocals and performs throughout the album alongside members of his touring band, while the Ndlovu Youth Choir also appear on two additional tracks.

Taylor co-produced the album with Joshua J. Macrae and said its title reflects his view of the current state of the world:

"There is a theme, you know, it’s in the title really, what a beautiful world we live in, don’t fuck it up. There seems to be all this insanity at the moment. The violence in the world seems to be as bad as it ever was, at any point, and certainly in my lifetime. It’s just horrific, a lot of insane violence. And we do seem to be fucking up the world, plastics in the sea, you know, and all these awful wars everywhere and hatred born of different religions."

Taylor will support the album with a UK tour this September. His live band for the run includes longtime Queen collaborator Spike Edney on keyboards, Tyler Warren on drums, multi-instrumentalist Tina Keys, bassist Neil Fairclough, and guitarist Christian Mendoza.
