Twista pleads guilty to five counts of tax evasion

Twista is in hot water with the United States government after he failed to pay more than $440,000 in income taxes from 2019 to 2023, according to federal documents obtained by XXL.

The Chicago emcee, whose real name is Carl Mitchell, pleaded guilty in May to five counts of willfully failing to pay income tax, and the docs claim the "Slow Jamz" rapper was warned multiple times by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and his accountant.

Instead of squaring up, feds say Twista made a deal with a third-party company to receive advances on future royalties, which prosecutors said was his way of skirting around the IRS to avoid having his wages garnished.

The docs also say the rapper made plenty of money through multiple sources of income, including shows, streaming royalties, album sales and music licencing despite not filing taxes during the four-year period.

Investigators say Twista had no problem spending money as he purchased at least four luxury vehicles instead of paying his taxes.

Charged with five federal misdemeanors, Twista could face up to one year in prison for each charge, with the ultimate decision up to the judge.

He is due back in court Oct. 22 for his sentencing hearing.
